Volunteer Experience

ProPeru Service Corps individual volunteers

Individual Volunteers

Volunteers work with a community on projects initiated by ProPeru or an affiliated NGO or government social program. Your project is determined by the needs of the community and your skills and interests. Projects emphasize social and economic development, health, and the environment. Your efforts will put sustainable development into practice. The volunteer experience includes hands-on development work, a homestay with a Peruvian family, Spanish classes, full cultural immersion, and adventures in Peru.

Group Custom Programs

ProPeru offers schools, universities, businesses, and private groups customized project-based programs. All groups, including university study abroad and faculty-led programs, are individually designed to best meet your group’s academic and vocational interests. ProPeru has worked with Arizona State University, Michigan University, UCONN, University of North Carolina, NYU, San Diego State University, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Princeton, Deakin University Australia, and others. ProPeru also partners with Kaya Responsible Travel, CIS Abroad, Academic Studies Abroad, and CIS Australia. Contact the ProPeru Director, Milagros Montufar, to request a proposal.

ProPeru Service Corps Spanish Classes

Spanish Classes

To maximize your volunteer or study abroad experience, ProPeru offers private and small group Spanish classes. Whether a beginner or a heritage speaker who wants to brush up on grammar and writing, there are classes for all levels. Spanish classes typically have 5 students or less and are taught by qualified and experienced Peruvian teachers. Language acquisition is enhanced by the daily use of Spanish while volunteering and in your homestay. If you are serious about speaking and understanding Spanish, total immersion is what it takes.

Pro Peru Service Corps Homestays

Homestays

Volunteers and students live with Peruvian host families. ProPeru’s families are pre-selected and carefully screened to provide warm, safe, and authentic cultural experiences. Homestays are one of the favorite parts of the experience because you can practice your Spanish every day. Volunteers often become quite close with their Peruvian families and maintain contact with them. Living with a family is one of the best ways to develop language skills and cross-cultural competency. Housing accommodations have the necessary modern amenities, are single or double occupancy, and provide three meals a day. Many dietary needs can be accommodated.
